Sant Joan de Binissaida

Long live the oil tourism and Sant Joan de Binissaida’s oil

Long live the oil tourism and Sant Joan de Binissaida’s oil

From this, our rural home, we are very aware of the importance of protecting the paradise that is Menorca and trying to minimize our impact on the environment.

On Monday, 29 July, the human race started living on credit. As calculated by the organisation the Global Footprint Network, from now till the end of December, we will be using resources faster than the planet can replace them. And every year that overdraft date is coming earlier.

In San Joan de Binissaida we have the firm intention of fighting against & reversing this climate crisis, and that is why we are committed to a responsible and efficient hospitality in all aspects. Thus, we have our own garden, cattle and olive groves, and most of our gastronomic offer comes from what we produce. It sounds difficult, but we have succeeded and it makes us very happy.

A few days ago, we could read in the Menorca newspaper that the island has exceeded 50,000 planted olive trees. And it is that this Mediterranean enclave no longer lives only from the wine and Mahón-Menorca cheese, but a very important movement of new plantings that reveal a spectacular future is taking place. Come on, they are even looking for you are even looking for the Protected Geographical Indication! The future will be eco or it won’t be.

In addition, our liquid gold has a thousand and one health properties, so you can not miss these holidays in Menorca to disconnect to reconnect and regenerate inside and out. Some of the benefits that oil can do for you:

  1. Helps to control cholesterol.
  2. Improves blood circulation.
  3. Strengthens the immune system.
  4. Fight against diabetes.
  5. Protect the brain.
  6. Relieves joint pain.
  7. Helps you lose weight.
  8. Nourishes the skin.
  9. Strengthens hair.
  10. Has anti-cancer properties.

Currently, in our family of olive trees there are 600 copies and we produce three different types of extra virgin olive oil:

  1. Monovarietal oil of “Koroneiki”, a particular variety native of Greece.
  2. “Arbequina” monovarietal oil.
  3. A coupage of “picual” olive with a small amount of “manzanilla” and “villalonga”.

Of course, we encourage you to try any of our proposals in the restaurant of San Joan de Binissaida, which is in the hands of the geniuses of Ses Forquilles, who understand traditional Menorcan cuisine from a very personal and authentic point of view.

Our special piece of advice if you want to run out of words: you cannot miss our “Coca de vidre” with tomato, virgin olive oil coupage de Binissaida and Fornells salt. Absolutely exquisite.

In this Menorcan hotel we love agrotourism above any other things, and you? What do you think of the products made in Menorca? What would you like us to incorporate into our green hotel? Tell us in comments, that we read all, all.
